A young shepherd trusts God and faces a mighty warrior when everyone else is afraid.

The story in Scripture

Israel’s army was frightened by Goliath, a powerful Philistine warrior. David arrived to bring supplies to his brothers and heard Goliath’s challenge. David trusted that God would help him, used his sling, and defeated Goliath with a stone.

Read it together in your Bible: 1 Samuel 17.

What we learn

True courage comes from trusting God rather than depending only on size or strength.

Talk about it

  1. Why were the Israelite soldiers afraid of Goliath?
  2. What gave David the courage to face him?
  3. What can we do when a problem feels too big?

Try this activity

Create five paper stones. Write one fear on each stone, then write a truth about God that can help you face it.
