Jonah runs from God’s instruction but learns about obedience, repentance, and mercy.

The story in Scripture

God instructed Jonah to warn the city of Nineveh. Jonah sailed in the opposite direction and was swallowed by a great fish after a storm. Jonah prayed, obeyed, and delivered God’s message, but still needed to learn about God’s compassion.

Read it together in your Bible: Jonah 1–4.

What we learn

God cares about people, offers mercy, and calls us to obey with the right attitude.

Talk about it

  1. Why did Jonah run away?
  2. What did Jonah do inside the great fish?
  3. What did Jonah still need to learn about mercy?
